Our society is waking up a new crisis, one which has always been there but is now only being recognised, Loneliness. Loneliness can increase the likelihood of mortality by 26% and is akin to obesity or 15 cigarettes a day in terms of health risk whilst being an assault on our mental health and the mental health of others. 9 million people in the UK suffer from loneliness with two thirds of that number feeling ashamed to admit it. Logically we would assume that the elderly are the primary sufferers due to shrinking social circles and debilitating health issues however this isn’t the entire truth. In fact under 25 year olds and 45-54 year olds are primary sufferers as well.
In answer to this crisis Social Reach aims to connect sufferers of loneliness to community projects and groups to help expand their social reach. In conjunction with this Social Reach will also run CPD programmes and equip HCPs and GPs with the resources they need to run an effective social prescribing programme
